Sealife: 'I have tested all the products we offer'

As general manager of Sealife Benelux, Harro Cats can talk for hours about his products. It all started from his own passion and enthusiasm for diving. Sealife Benelux is now a distributor and importer of 14 leading brands within the industry with which they want to offer more comfort and fun to diving.

Sealife Benelux originated from Harro's professional photo shop in Maassluis. “That is the foundation of this company,” he says. In 2006 he was approached by camera producer Sealife. 'In 2012 we also started distributing other brands and we now offer a complete diving line.' Behind this range lies more than high-quality products. 'I want to be able to tell something about my products: there must be a story behind it.'

Products with a soul

All products offered by Sealife Benelux have therefore been tested by Harro. 'It obliges me to practice diving', says Harro with a laugh. He has been active in diving for 28 years, which allows him to assess the products with a critical eye. 'I want products with a soul: they have to be thought through carefully and I also think the story and the people behind the product are important.'

Harro can fully focus on the materials and customers because his employees Jolanda does a lot behind the scenes of the company. 'That gives me the space to fully focus on our goals: we want to let our customers experience diving. I want to share my enthusiasm and by understanding my products, I can offer the best to my customers. That way we are also valuable to shopkeepers.' Sustainability and comfort are also important pillars when testing products.

"If the tank hadn't been empty, I'd still be at the bottom of that pool."

Passion for diving

Despite the fact that Harro 'must' test products every day for his work, he still enjoys it a lot. “That love started with swimming. I obtained all possible diplomas and soon I ended up in the rescue brigade.' At the age of 16, he obtained his swimming instructor diploma. 'After that I was allowed to join the diving club of the rescue brigade once. If the tank hadn't been empty, I'd still be at the bottom of that pool right now.'

With the same passion, Harro will also be at the Duikvaker fair with a team of 25 people next year. The advisors and specialists can tell you everything about different products, but you can also feel and see the materials. 'This year we have an even more extensive range at the fair with a number of new products.' Think of Sharkskin and Lavacore suits that are made of fabric that makes it breathable and lighter. There are also new developments in the field of cameras, lenses, fins and masks.
