Underwater drones for inspections, research and searches
Biological research, Search & Rescue, ship inspections, bottom inspections, monitoring in mussel farms and other aquaculture, infrastructure checks... these are just some examples of areas where underwater drones are used. In combination with a drone, one or more instruments such as a sonar, metal detector, robot arm, laser scaler or water/sand sample collector, PH meter, oxygen content meter can be used.
Usability and Accessibility of Underwater Drones
An underwater drone is easy to operate and the image can be viewed directly via smartphone or tablet. An underwater drone is easy to use and the controls can be quickly learned by people who have to operate it. The drone is connected to the side via a tether cable. The tether cables on most underwater drones are 100 or 200 meters. For some underwater drones, a cable of 300 meters is possible.
Technical Specifications of Underwater Drones
The maximum depth is 100 to 350 meters depending on the model. Most underwater drones can travel at a speed of 3 knots and can therefore handle a current of 2 knots. The QYSEA FIFISH W6 ROV can reach a speed of 4 knots and can therefore be used in currents up to 3 knots. Using the DVL system on a drone, the drone can automatically remain in a fixed location. This makes operating a drone in currents much easier.
Personalization Accessories of Underwater Drones
By equipping the underwater drone with 1 or more accessories, the drone can be used for all kinds of purposes. It varies per type of drone how many accessories can be attached to it at the same time. The choice of drone type therefore partly depends on the number of instruments required.
