Duikvaker adds a new dimension to the 26th edition of the diving fair on February 3 and 4, 2018. The annual event for divers and snorkelers has entered into a multi-year partnership with SummerLabb and dives into the future.

Can you imagine? An ocean without coral reefs and without sharks, a North Sea that is perishing due to polluting industry, a sea full of plastic…? The image of a future that is closer than you think. At least if nothing happens.

It can be so beautiful! Ask divers. They will tell you how beautiful it is underwater, but at the same time that it is not what it used to be. Enthusiastic conservationists - large and small - try to save what can be saved, but is it not time for joint solutions?

Out of the box
SummerLabb, the traveling City of the Future by Jan Douwe Kroeske, gives a sneak preview of what the future will bring on Duikvaker. She does this together with partners ranging from multinationals to smaller entrepreneurs, from educational institutions to government agencies, who have one thing in common: they are committed to a healthy planet. They are looking for innovative, out-of-the-box solutions in every area - from industry to fisheries, from education to agriculture - that keep the oceans blue and the earth green.

Duikvaker and SummerLabb build a bridge between the diving world and the partners mentioned. The public will have the opportunity to get to know and talk about innovative developments in which the oceans and water in general are paramount.

New Dimension
Patrick van Brienen, organizer of Duikvaker, is enthusiastic about the new collaboration. He proudly says: «For years we have brought everything for the diver and snorkeler together in one place. From diving equipment to travel, from training to cameras. Now we have set ourselves a new goal as a diving event: we want to keep the oceans blue so that divers can still enjoy the beauty under water in 15, 30 and 50 years. And we do that together with SummerLabb.”.

Jan Douwe Kroeske, initiator of SummerLabb, adds: «Through my TV programs Jules Unlimited and Jan Douwe in Search I got to know the world of diving and divers well. I know that the underwater world is often experienced as an ideal world. Now that even that world is shifting under the influence of climate change, it becomes clear that that place also has our attention
deserves. SummerLabb and Duikvaker will work as buddies above water to explain the importance of a healthy underwater world.»

In its 26-year existence, Duikvaker has always paid attention to organizations that are committed to nature conservation and a better planet. Space was always reserved at the fair for projects aimed at a healthy sea, the recovery of corals, a clean North Sea, protection of sharks and whales, and so on, even in 2018.
