Wahoo Diving | The Azores – a paradise at the western end of Europe
The Azores is an archipelago of nine volcanic islands located on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge (largely submerged Mountain range in the Atlantic Ocean). The Azores are a 'Hope spot*' for the conservation of marine biodiversity in the Atlantic Ocean. The archipelago is just a two-hour flight off the coast of Portugal.
The green meadows, deep forests, the steep rugged cliffs and the azure of the Atlantic Ocean await you: a paradise on the western end of Europe. The waters of the Azores are home to more than twenty species of cetaceans, five species of sea turtles and large pelagic fish including sharks and rays that can be seen on Wahoo Diving boat trips.
Divers appreciate the regular encounters with devil rays and other pelagic fish, as well as the extraordinary diversity of dive sites. Santa Maria, the southernmost island, is also called 'Ilha do Sol' because of the most hours of sunshine per year within the archipelago. With its small and white sandy beaches and coves, Santa Maria provides diving with a real holiday feeling.
*Hope Spots are ecologically unique areas of the ocean designated for conservation as part of a global conservation campaign.
