Sidemount Dives
Inspiration, information and interaction – that's what it's all about at the Theme Tables on the DuikeninBeeld stand. Wondering what sidemount is? Berdi Boeve shows that sidemount is a way of diving for every diver.
Diving with sidemount, you have probably already heard or read about it. You've probably also seen the sidemount divers in all the reports about the soccer team rescue in Thailand! But if you think it's only for technical divers… no! Sidemount can also be a huge advantage for recreational divers.
What is sidemount diving?
The name says it all – the tanks are attached to a special harness next to your body and not on your back (backmount). This way you lie streamlined in the water. That's also one reason why many cave divers dive with sidemount. You can also take more breathing gas with you, especially because you usually dive with two (or sometimes more) bottles.
Not just for technical divers
Diving with a sidemount configuration is not just for technical divers. You can also dive with it recreationally. You can take more breathing gas with you and - of course respecting the no-decompression limits - stay lower for longer – a big advantage if you are a 'large consumer'.
Also divers with back problems often dive sidemount. You don't have to carry the bottles in the most vulnerable place. Moreover, you can easily hang the bottles in the water and you do not have to drag them heavily.
Plenty of possibilities and benefits for every diver. At the Theme table on Duikvaker, Sidemount Instructor Berdi Boeve from Scuba Connection will tell you more about this form of diving, which materials you need and which courses are available. And of course he will answer all your questions. And if you already have experience with sidemount, sit down and share your experiences with other divers.
