Coral reefs, how long?
Speaker: Dos Winkel
About the presentation
Coral reefs, the most colorful ecosystems that have existed for hundreds of millions of years, are disappearing like snow in the sun. In less than 50 years, all the reefs on Earth have become sick, and scientists say no reefs will be alive by 2050 unless…
Dos Winkel examines the causes of the decline of coral reefs. In addition to beautiful images, he also tells us how we can save these unique ecosystems in a relatively simple way.
About the speaker
The Sea First Foundation (SFF) was founded 11 years ago by Dos Winkel, who, after decades of diving in the most diverse ecosystems, noticed (serious) deterioration of underwater nature everywhere. He decided to end his work as an orthopedic physiotherapist and teacher of Orthopedic Medicine and to devote the rest of his life to ocean conservation and related ecosystems. After much networking, study and writing the book “What's wrong with fish”, Sea First was founded. Sea First is primarily concerned with education about the importance and threats to the ocean. The solutions to those threats are also discussed in detail. Classes are given in schools and universities, as well as lectures for all kinds of organizations, such as diving clubs, Lion clubs, Rotaries, and for anyone who is interested.
Dos has published several books, such as De Huilende Zee and – for children – the educational book The Alphabet of the Sea.
