Duikvaker 2016: Finding your way through the range
On February 6 and 7, Expo Houten will open again for the best diving fair in the Netherlands. There is so much to do, discover and experience. More than a hundred stands and 80 experts in diving and underwater nature who share their knowledge. So an important question is: what do you want to see, hear and know? And: how do you find your way in such an abundant program?
The program has been compiled by DUIKEN Magazine, Duikeninbeeld, Netherlands Maritime Research Foundation, Dive&Travel, Dutch Shark Society and Duikvaker himself, of course.
All your questions will be answered, because actually no topic around diving is left untouched. The program includes something for everyone, whether you are a beginner or an instructor.
Prepare for inspiration (anticipation!) and download the special app to show you the way during Duikvaker.
Download the app
Don't miss out on the topics that interest you. Download the Duikvaker App in the Apple App store or at Google Play. You will find the full program in the app. Use the filter to find out what's going on in topics that interest you. Whether it's tec diving, photography or film, North Sea, sharks or protection of the underwater world. Favorite the sessions you definitely don't want to miss. This way you can quickly and easily put together your personal program.
Of course you can also select the stands on topics of your interest. There are iBeacons at the fair. If you pass a stand that offers something interesting, you will receive a notification on your smartphone.
Please note: do give the app permission for push notifications, so that you also receive those notifications at the fair. You will only receive these messages during the fair; not before and not after. And only on the topics that you have indicated yourself.
Be inspired by the offer
Lectures and workshops can be found at various places on the Duikvaker exhibition floor. The full program is very extensive. Here are a few hotspots in a row.
Themed tables DuikeninBeeld.tv | hall 1 booth 5341
A whole series of specialists will sit down at the two theme tables to tell you about their subject and answer your questions. The theme tables are interactive: your input is of unprecedented value. You can just join – no registration is required. A themed table lasts approximately 45 minutes. The program is super varied: from film and photography, to slugs and diving with scooters. Be inspired by the program and plan where you definitely want to be!
Incidentally, there are several reasons to visit the booth of DuikeninBeeld. For the third year already, you can determine every hour which beautiful diving photos hang in the Dynamic photo exhibition. And you can win a prize with that!
DIVING | hall 2, booth 3060
Sailing in the stealth submarine Ortega? You can do that for two days at the DUIKEN stand! Virtual, but certainly no less fun. Exchange your experiences from the real crew of this Dutch-designed canoe-shaped underwater craft.
Of course, the well-known DIVING authors are also present for workshops on photography, safety, equipment and tech diving. Learn everything about choosing a good camera and about 'troubleshooting' on the waterfront if something is wrong with your diving cylinder or regulator set. On Saturday and Sunday, a workshop of about half an hour starts every hour between 11 am and 3 pm.
Look here what's all can be done at the DIVING stand.
Dutch Shark Society | hall 5
Dutch Shark Society is a media platform that bridges the gap between science and the public and develops initiatives with photography and film. During Duikvaker, room 5 is the place to be for those who want to know more about sharks, rays and how divers can help protect these beautiful and useful fish. So: do you want to take good shark photos, know more about sharks in the Netherlands and the Antilles, or want to know how to dive sustainably and responsibly with sharks: you will find the answer on Saturday and Sunday in room 5.
In the full program per room at room 5, you will find the complete program about sharks.
Netherlands Maritime Research Foundation (Stimon) | hall 3 | Wreck Dive Square
The Netherlands Maritime Research Foundation focuses on preserving our maritime heritage underwater. On the special wreck diving square you can follow a whole program or parts) about underwater archeology, and hear exciting stories about the E17, the O17 and the U31.
Dive & travel | hall 2 booth 2619
You will also find the theater at the Dive&travel stand. You can go there all day long for inspiration for the most beautiful destinations for all your diving trips.
Central stage | hall 1 booth 9945
In hall 1 you will find the central stage, with a varied program.
A lot about freediving: live interview with the three Dutch toppers Nanja van den Broek (world record holder), Jeanine Grasmeijer (world champion) and Eric van Riet Paap (multiple Dutch champion). Freediving doctor Rik Rösken talks about what happens to your body during your freedive.
But also: what good music means for your underwater film; fashion shows; all the ins and outs about Wasub, a human-powered submarine that TU Delft students used last year International Submarine Races won with a world record. And much more.

movie theater
In collaboration with the North Sea Film Festival, Duikvaker screens a selection of Belgian and Dutch film productions from 2015. The films were officially selected for the underwater film festivals of Marseille, Belgrade and Estartit, including the winner of the Dutch Open Championship.
